Pada tahun-tahun terakhir era Bakumatsu hidup seorang pembunuh legendaris yang dikenal sebagai Hitokiri Battousai. Ditakuti sebagai pembunuh tanpa ampun, ia tak tertandingi di seluruh negeri, tetapi secara misterius menghilang di puncak Revolusi Jepang.
